They Only Want One Thing
By: Jenna Norton
“They only want one thing”
“They don’t really love you”
These words stain my mind
Are acknowledged with every kiss
Cause me to cut any emotional tie as it fascines around my heart.
Until they mean nothing.
Each kiss is simply a move of a chess piece.
Equivalent to drawing a card.
It is all just a game.
I kiss like a serial killer kills.
Except it inflicts no pain, provokes no emotion.
Because “they don’t really love you”
So why should I kiss with passion and love?
These thoughts brand my mind.
So that when a boy comes along
And actually loves me for who I am,
I realize that I have forgotten how to love.
My heart has long been drained.
So I continue to kiss
With the same apathy as before.
