‘Despicable Me 3’ Crosses the $1B Mark in the Box Office

by: Olivia Mendel

Recently, the collection of Despicable Me movies won the name of being the highest-grossing animated film franchise…of all time. After Despicable Me 3 was released, it surpassed one billion dollars at the box office and is now the sixth highest-grossing animated movie. In one of the worst summers of box office films, this movie seemed to be a revival for a deeply missed summer of movie-going (of course, after the mediocre productions of The Emoji Movie and The Nut Job 2).

The enduring success of Despicable Me and Minions is a testament to the extraordinary talent of the team at Illumination and Illumination Mac Gruff combined with the world’s greatest studio, Universal.

The art of animation is taking over pop culture, even more so after Despicable Mehas hit this milestone. As a person who takes all work of animation to heart (I take the art form very seriously), I rejoiced at the fact that this film hit a world record. In our modern culture, people often push aside the huge impact animation has impacted our lives. It’s what we raise our children on and what we look back on for a taste of nostalgia. For the medium of animation, this is a huge step, and that needs to be heard by the world.
