2017 Wrapped Up
By: Naomi McLeary
It's amazing to think that 2017 has come to an end so quickly. The year started with high ambitions to get fit; stores were packed with workout clothes and the internet was flooded with fad diets New movies like Moana, Spider-Man, Wonder, and many others brought people to theaters by the thousands, making 2017 an awesome year for the box office. Netflix and the televise industry hit an all time high by curating shows like Stranger Things, Riverdale, 13 Reasons Why, and This Is Us, leaving fans hanging on for a next season.
It's quite funny how technology seemed to grow exponentially this year. An innumerable amount of phones have been released, Snapchat updated its latest app features, and social media is being used by more people worldwide. Thanks to Facebook's new app, even kids under 13 can use social media! It's hard to wrap up 2017 because things have just flown by. North Korea has advanced their nuclear weapon system, and Russia is increasingly becoming more suspicious (especially regarding the Presidential elections).
In spite of these vents, for me at least, 2017 was a year of change. I transitioned from middle school to high school, moved
to a new house, and decided to start doing volleyball. This year, I really earned to take "life's lemons and make lemonade." I'd have to say taking on change can be one of the most sour lemons of them all; adapting to new situations can be difficult. I've really changed this year and have learn to adapt quickly and effectively to get where I want to be. 2018 can bring whatever challenges as it wants, but I know that I'll be ready.
An Editor's Note from the Iliad Team: 2017 was a big year for our team. Being able to get the ball rolling strong this school year was one of our main goals, and we are proud to say that we've definitely achieved that! While we will not be posting over winter break (our writers and editors need a break too!), we will definitely be back in the New Year to bring more school news and current events for your enjoyment. Thank you for supporting the school magazine, and enjoy your winter break!
